BAG SPLITTER

ADAPTABLE TO YOUR NEEDS

Around the world, Matthiessen Bag Splitters are used in the first stage of many recycling processes. These bag openers not only tear or open the bags, but also empty their contents and meter them onto a conveyor belt. The material is separated and prepared for subsequent sorting and picking processes without being shredded. Matthiessen Bag Splitters are also used as Bale Breakers and Dosing Bunkers.

MORE INFORMATION

FOR DIFFERENT MATERIALS

With Matthiessen Bag Splitters, we are able to adapt to respond to your diverse recycling needs. For materials like municipal solid waste, lightweight packaging, organic waste, and paper, our range offers specific rotor-comb-blade variants, including retractable or fixed prongs and passive or actively rotating counter-combs. These configurations allow for precise adjustments to meet our customers’ needs and efficient preparation of materials for further processing. Thanks to a variety of sizes and throughput capacities, we also support individual economic requirements, always finding a customized solution for you.

THE RIGHT VERSION FOR ANY APPLICATION

MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE UP TO 50 T/H
Municipal waste, often collected in bags and bins, varies regionally and contains many recyclable materials. The Matthiessen Bag Splitter type SRIV requires only 25 kW to process 35 tons/h of municipal waste, offering significant energy savings compared to other units.
LIGHT PACKAGING UP TO 20 T/H
Often known as the "Yellow Bag" in Germany, light packaging contains a variety of materials such as Tetra Paks, films, and metals, which can be efficiently separated on modern sorting plants. A newly developed ripping comb allows for a throughput of up to 20 tons/h, with critical materials like films being separated early in the process.
ORGANIC WASTE UP TO 50 T/H
Organic waste is often collected in bags and contains foreign materials like films that can disrupt the processing. Using a bag splitter at the beginning of the process to open bags and films without shredding ensures optimal material input for subsequent steps, enhancing the quality of organic waste for further processing.
PAPER AND CARDBOARD UP TO 30 T/H
Collected in bundles or bags depending on the region, paper and cardboard need to be effectively separated for recycling. The Matthiessen Bag Splitter type SF K4 is specially designed for opening and emptying these materials, requiring only 18 kW to process about 15 tons/h of material.

OPERATIONAL DETAILS

In the Matthiessen Bag Splitter, waste and recycling bags are transported into the bunker using a wheel loader, grapple, or a conveyor belt provided by the customer. A chain belt conveyor at the bottom of the bunker moves the material to the rotating drum. Here, retractable or fixed tearing tines grab the bags and guide them through a tearing comb at the top of the drum. The bags and their contents are pulled through the narrow space between the rotor tines and the comb blades, opened and emptied, without compressing or shredding the contents or other materials.

Oversized, bulky materials like garden chairs or nested buckets are reduced to a more manageable size, while smaller, loose pieces pass under the rotor and fall onto a process belt. After this process, the opened and emptied bags, along with their contents, are discharged onto an on-site conveyor belt on the other side, enabling efficient further processing and sorting.
